Dorner Solves Customer's Wide Conveyor Application with Belted Conveyor Design


Dorner recently worked with a customer who required a 101” wide conveyor. The conveyor needed to accept three side-by-side stacks of light-weight product that were up to 30” wide apiece. The challenge was, Dorner’s widest standard offering is the 52” wide belt on the AquaGard 7360 platform. The application did not require stainless steel construction, so Dorner’s Engineered Solutions Group recommended a unique solution using the 3200 Series platform and overcame two engineering challenges along the way.

How to Achieve Overall Equipment Effectiveness


Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is a standard for measuring equipment productivity in the manufacturing industry through availability, performance and quality. In mathematical terms, Availability x Performance x Quality = OEE. Though a basic formula, OEE can be used as the foundation of process analysis and help companies identify and eliminate overall losses and waste. It can be used to evaluate a single machine, station, or even an entire factory.

In the equation, Availability analyzes planned run time versus actual run time. Performance looks at product completion rates, or throughput. Quality conveys how many of the finished products meet the company’s standard. Essentially, what is the percentage of defective products? Together, these factors are used to recognize how equipment is performing and helps to set production goals that a company plans to achieve.

Ryan Knudtson is Recipient of the 2016 Richard C. Ryan Packaging Education Scholarship


Ryan Knudtson, a student at the University of Wisconsin – Stout, is the recipient of the 2016 Richard C. Ryan Packaging Education Scholarship, funded by Dorner Mfg. Corp. 

This $2,000 scholarship, awarded to a student enrolled in a two- or four-year program at any of PMMI’s partner schools, was established in honor of Richard Ryan, the former president and CEO of Dorner, who passed away suddenly in September 2012.  Ryan was a member of the PMMI Board of Directors and encouraged lifelong learning. His commitment to education inspired the creation of this memorial scholarship.
