Dorner Supports Its Employee/Soldier Prior to Iraq Deployment

Rich Ryan, chief operating officer for Dorner Manufacturing, recently traveled to Fort Bliss, Texas to learn more about National Guard training and show support for an employee before his upcoming deployment to Iraq. Ryan traveled with 50 other executives March 27-29 as part of the ESGR Program (Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve), which is offered through the U.S. Department of Defense.

Ryan flew to Texas with an Air Force reserve unit to visit Staff Sgt. Ryan Johnson, who has been an engineer at Dorner for nearly 10 years and is also part of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Wisconsin Army National Guard. During the three-day visit, the group traveled to nearby Camp McGregor, N.M., where they were able to tour training facilities, talk with soldiers and instructors, and experience a variety of training, including hand-to-hand combat, short-range and advanced-rifle marksmanship, detainee operations and more.

"Being part of the ESGR Program was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Rich Ryan. "Until you see it up close, you really can’t understand just how difficult it is for our soldiers to balance work, family and training. It’s a tough job and I really appreciate the service and dedication of Ryan Johnson – and all U.S. soldiers – we’re certainly fortunate to have them."
