In early October, Palermo's Pizza expanded its bakery operations to automate the handling of raw dough, and raw and baked pizza crusts. This nationally known frozen pizza and pizza bread producer needed conveyors with high uptime and precise, gentle handling characteristics. The conveyors also needed to interface easily with their state-of-the-art bakery. Dorner’s AquaPruf^® was the right choice. Working closely with Palermo's, Dorner designed a system of conveyors and controls, and a variety of single and multiple lane merges and product transfers.

And the timeline was very tight – Dorner had just 20 days before pizza production was set to begin – and the two companies had to work together seamlessly to finish this project quickly. Dorner delivered the conveyor system in just 15 working days.

"This project was well run and we were kept abreast throughout, said Steve Daniels, operations project manager for Palermo's. "Dorner allowed me to concentrate on the many other details involved in bringing a project like this to fruition. The time line was short, and the execution was right on."

As in any food processing application, it was extremely important to maintain the highest level of sanitation. The stainless steel AquaPruf 7400 and 7600 Series were perfect options for Palermo's, designed for complete sanitation with key options such as belt lifters and frame cutouts, making the conveyors suitable for high pressure wash down underneath the belt and within the conveyor frame.

Delivering the ideal solution to Palermo's Pizza was a great success for both companies.

Inspiration at the Pack Expo

The saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” is certainly not true for the Pack Expo held at the Las Vegas Convention Center during the first week of October.

Among hundreds of packaging equipment manufacturers, Dorner showcased conveyors and spoke with customers about packaging and material-handling needs. With nearly 23,000 show attendees, the high-energy convention center was filled with exceptional innovation in packaging technology.

At the Dorner booth, we displayed new products,such as the iDrive and AquaGard™ 7350 and 7360 Series, that sparked creative ideas and led to big plans for execution. Much was accomplished in Vegas at the beginning of October and Dorner is inspired to work with our customers to turn their visions into reality.
