Meet Bill
As Garvey’s general manager, Bill R. has no shortage of challenges throughout the day, making the work enjoyable!
Bill started with Garvey over 13 years ago as an engineering intern and, after graduating, worked his way through the company. From engineering and product management to sales and proposals, he has experienced numerous sides of the accumulation industry. This experience prepared Bill to take on a new role as general manager of Garvey nearly one year ago. “It was good for me to see the different perspectives from each group within Garvey to help facilitate conversations and teamwork across departments.”
One of Bill’s biggest challenges is helping his team balance customers’ needs with reasonably priced solutions built in a reasonable timeline, particularly in complicated or large system projects. Every company is different, so every accumulation system is customized to suit the unique needs of a production line. This wide variation challenges Garvey’s engineers to develop new and innovative solutions daily. “Customers put their trust in us when we say, ‘We’ve never done something like that, but we know we can.’ We work to build that trust with our engineering expertise, and when we succeed, that’s how we gain a customer for life.”
It’s always rewarding for Bill to see a project progress from a 2D drawing to a 3D model, then be fabricated and assembled in the same building. “You get to see the full lifecycle of a project… it’s great to see an idea turn into a physical working machine.” As the material handling industry evolves into the future, Bill expects to see even more innovative conveyance and accumulation technology come through Garvey’s engineering and production departments. Manufacturing is “what America was founded on,” and Bill is excited to be a part of a company bringing manufacturing into the future.
